Barcelona is a city on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the quintessential capital of Catalonia being both the autonomous region, as the province of Barcelona in the region of Barcelona and the city in population and economic weight of the Iberian Peninsula. The town grows on a plain wedged between the coastal range, the Mediterranean Sea, the river Besos and Montjuïc. The city hosts the headquarters of the major government institutions of Catalonia, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Parliament of Catalonia.

Barcelona has grown annexing neighboring municipalities that are now the city's districts. Note the fundamental contribution of Idelfons Cerdà in urban planning. Barcelona is divided into ten districts.
With a population of 1,628,090 inhabitants, Barcelona is the most populous city of the Principality and the eleventh of the European Union, the second city that is not a capital after Hamburg.

Barcelona was an industrial city, now the factories have been moved to the periphery, which has allowed us to convert the former industrial areas into residential areas in search for high value-added products and services. The industrial sectors that are more representative of Barcelona are: textile, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, electronics, medical and printing industry. Barcelona is known for services in logistics, publishing and computer.

According to the European City Brand Barometer strength of the brand "Barcelona" is in third place with Munich, and before Paris and London. It is in fourth place ranking of best cities for business and hotel rooms in fifth position in organizing conferences, the first cruise ship passengers and sixth in the rental price of industrial land.

 

Barcelona, have signed the Covenant of Mayors (COM), in which the majors commit themselves to go beyond the objectives set by the EU for 2020, reducing the CO2 emissions in their respective territories by at least 20%, through the implementation of a Sustainable Energy Action Plan for those areas of activity relevant to our mandates.

SPEA as a pilot project start a road to make reality the commitment of our Mayor to bring a quality life to residents in our city.
